About the Accreditation Program
The IAAE Canada Accreditation Program is set to be the equivalent of a 4th year university academic level and challenges the candidates to prove their knowledge and skills in three distinct ways: Passing the exam, researching and writing a management paper and passing the Board of Examiners panel interview.
Candidates are given three years to complete the program.
Prerequisites:
Prospective accreditation candidates must be:- 21 years of age;
- A current Affiliate Member of IAAE Canada;
- Have one full year of airport management experience;
- Possess a university degree, college diploma, or have eight years of Canadian airport experience. Candidates may substitute airport experience in lieu of university/college on a two-for-one basis.
The Process:
Submit your latest resume and a signed copy of the Code of Ethics. (download)
Affiliate Candidates must complete the written exam first, then the management research paper and finally, the interview and oral examination with the Board of Examiners.
Three Phases:
1. EXAM
The written exam has 140 multiple-choice questions and is developed by the IAAE Canada Accreditation Committee & the IAAE Canada Board of Examiners, with input from aviation and education experts. The exam is based on the IAAE Canada body of knowledge; Airport Development, Management and Operations in Canada by E.R. Syme; IAAE Canada Accreditation Program Study Guide and Canadian Aviation Regulations.
IAAE Canada annually offers a one-week Accreditation Academy that reviews the relevant material and proctors the exam.
A candidate may challenge the exam without completing the academy, provided an approved proctor is available. See website for fees.
The exam is divided into five segments: Administration & Finance; Planning, Construction & Environment; Operations & Maintenance; Communications & Marketing; and Safety & Security.
To pass, 60% is required in each of the five segments.
In the event that you fail to reach the 60% mark on one or more segments, you can opt for a re-write for an additional fee. You are only required to sit the segments in which you did not attain the 60%. Re-writes cannot be done within 30 days after the initial exam and a proctor as mentioned above must be identified and approved when requesting a re-write.
Upon completion of this phase you are a Certified Member.
A mentor will be provided to assist you with the next stages.
2. MANAGEMENT PAPER
The management paper is a reflection of the professionalism within IAAE Canada and contributes to the IAAE Canada body of knowledge. The completed papers are included in the IAAE Canada Library, which is accessible online to all members of IAAE Canada, IAAE and AAAE. In general, papers are to be 15 – 25 pages in length, relevant to airport management in Canada and relevance is not limited to one airport in Canada.
Three examiners must agree the paper meets the measures of professionalism and format as listed in the IAAE Canada Management Paper Guidebook.
3. INTERVIEW
Before completion of the final interview, the Affiliate Candidate must meet the following requirements:
Have successfully completed both the written examination and management research paper phases of the accreditation program.
Have accrued at least three full years of Canadian airport management experience.
The format and process of the interview, along with the interview questions, are found in the IAAE Canada Interview Panel Members Guide (available only to Board of Examiner Members). Guidelines for the candidates are in the IAAE Canada Candidates Guide to the Final Interview.
Upon completion of all phases of the Accreditation Program the Affiliate Candidate will achieve "Accredited Airport Executive" status and will use the designation A.A.E. after his or her name.
