Aerodrome Standards and Recommended Practices
A Practical Perspective
(TP312)
This course is needed to keep you current for the regulations. Perhaps you would like to host this course, thereby saving you money? If so or just to get your questions answered, email and ask
This is a two and a half day Training Program for Airport personnel who deal with TP312.
With many successful presentations since 2007 the course this year will again be delivered by John Smyth who retired in March 2007 as General Manager, Airside Operations at Toronto Pearson International Airport. John is an aviation professional who has been in the industry since 1968. The holder of an Airline Transport Pilot Licence, valid for single and multi-engine land and sea aircraft and endorsed for the Cessna Citation, he has over 4000 hours of flying experience and until recently held a Class 1 Instrument Rating and a Class 1 Instructor Rating. John joined Transport Canada as a Civil Aviation Inspector in 1974 where he was involved in the initial and recurrent examination of flying instructors and participated as a course instructor at annual Civil Flight Instructor Refresher Courses. Through progressively more senior management positions he was responsible for Personnel and Aircraft Licensing, Instrument Flight Standards, Flight Training Standards and finally Enforcement, all in the Ontario region. In 1991 he moved to Pearson International Airport where he played a key role in the Airside Development project and become intimately familiar with Transport Canada’s Aerodrome Standards and Recommend Practices (TP312). As a result he was invited by Transport Canada to participate in a review of TP312 as they prepare to draft a new aerodrome standard, a work which is still in progress. It is for these things that John is highly qualified to instruct you or your people.
Course Description:
Through a combination of instruction, discussion and group exercises participants will develop a working knowledge of Canadian aerodrome standards and recommended practices as well as the related regulatory requirements. Actual issues will be shared and combined with practical scenarios. Independent open book exercises will be combined with group exercises to develop solutions for increasingly complex problems. Participants will depart with an understanding of what is required to attain and maintain airport certification.
Results:
At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:
• Navigate TP312
• Explain the regulatory structure that leads to TP312
• Establish an equivalent level of safety if the airport is unable to meet a particular standard or recommended
practice
• Coordinate construction with minimum disruption to operations
• Develop a working Airport Operations Manual
• Attain and maintain airport certification
Pre-requisites:
Each participant must:
• Bring their copy of TP312. The document is available for free download at http://www.tc.gc.ca/publications/EN/TP312/PDF/HR/TP312E.pdf
• Be encouraged to bring an airside issue, particular to their airport, which requires resolution. A selection of these issues will be incorporated into group exercises.
