AIRPORT WILDLIFE CONTROL 1-Day Training
This course is needed to keep you current for the regulations. Perhaps you would like to host this course, thereby saving you money? If so or just to get your questions answered, email and ask.
Each year in Canada, approximately 1,250 bird strikes are reported to Transport
Canada. These reports provide details on the locations, species struck, aircraft
involved, flight phase, extent of damage, and weather conditions at the time of
the incident. For those reports identifying the phase of flight, statistics show over
90% occurred on or near the airport during take off, climb, final approach, landing
or taxi. This statistic reinforces the fact that an effective wildlife control program
at the airport is the key element in preventing bird strikes.
CARS 302.307, prescribes the requirement and criteria for airport wildlife
training. The training must include instruction on the:
• nature and extent of the wildlife management problem;
• regulations, standards and guidance material related to airport wildlife
management programs;
• bird ecology and biology;
• bird identification, including the use of field guides;
• mammal ecology and biology;
• mammal identification, including the use of field guides;
• any matter covered in the Wildlife Control Procedures Manual (TP 11500);
• any matter covered in the Sharing the Skies - An Aviation Industry Guide to
the Management of Wildlife Hazards document (TP 13549);
• rare and endangered species and species of special concern, including
related regulations and policies;
• habitat management;
• off-airport land use issues;
• active wildlife control measures;
• wildlife removal techniques;
• firearm safety;
• wildlife management planning; and
• development of awareness programs.
Our one-day training program meets all of the requirements of the CARS and is
designed specifically for those persons involved in the day-to-day control of
wildlife.
