AIRPORT EXECUTIVE ACCREDITATION PROGRAM
And CERTIFIED MEMBER PROGRAM
Policy Document
Policy
The IAAE Canada Accreditation Committee will confer the professional designations of Accredited Airport Executive (A.A.E.) and Certified Member (C.M.) upon those members of IAAE Canada in good standing who have successfully completed the respective designation program requirements, within the specified time limits.
Introduction
1) This IAAE Canada Accreditation and Certified Member Policy Document outlines the general procedures for the
administration of the IAAE Canada Accreditation and Certified Member programs.
2) Specific criteria for the evaluation and conduct of each of the three phases of the IAAE Canada Accreditation and
Certified Member program can be found in the relevant guidance materials referenced in this policy.
3) This policy document is intended to be a living document. Any corrections or suggestions for improvement are
encouraged and can be sent to the Chair of the IAAE Canada Accreditation Committee.
4) The Terms of Reference for the IAAE Canada Accreditation Committee and the Board of Examiners are included
in this policy document.
Integrity of the Program
5) The value of the A.A.E. mark is in the public, the airport industry and the candidate knowing that only those who have
demonstrated a high level of knowledge, managerial skill and professionalism are awarded the Accredited Airport
Executive designation.
6) The IAAE Canada Accreditation program is designed to be at a 4th Year University academic level and is to challenge
the candidate by proving their knowledge and skill in three distinct ways.
7) The IAAE Canada Board of Examiners expects all candidates to produce work of a very high quality and professional
standard. The Board of Examiners’ members when evaluating candidates’ submissions, will only approve those that
meet the standards of quality and professionalism that are prescribed by the IAAE Canada Accreditation Committee.

b) A current affiliate member of IAAE Canada; and
c) Have one full year of Canadian airport management experience; and
d) Possess a university degree, a diploma from a 3-year college program, or have eight years of Canadian airport
experience. For each year of university/college that the candidate has successfully completed, the Accreditation
Committee may credit the candidate two years of the 8 years of required work experience; and
e) Be accepted as an Accreditation Candidate by the IAAE Canada Accreditation Committee.
Accreditation Program Process
9) To become an Accredited Airport Executive the candidate must complete three distinct phases:
a) Phase I - A written examination based upon the IAAE Canada Body of Knowledge, (the text Airport Development,
Management and Operations in Canada, by E.R. Syme and A.T. Wells), the IAAE Canada Accreditation Program
Study Guide and the Canadian Aviation Regulations.;
b) Phase II - A management research paper;
c) Phase III - Successfully complete an interview and oral examination with the IAAE Canada Board of Examiners;
and
d) As a final condition, the candidate must have at least three full years of experience of Canadian airport
management employment. Airport management experience is defined as: being employed in the management,
operations or administration of an airport or in the staff functions of a Canadian airport.
10) A candidate who has successfully completed all of the program requirements becomes an “Accredited Airport
Executive” and the member is allowed the use of the A.A.E. designation after their name for as long as they remain
a member in good standing of IAAE Canada.
11) The candidates may complete either the management research paper or the written examination first.
The final phase is the interview and oral examination with the Board of Examiners.
Accreditation Program Completion
12) Candidates are expected to complete the program within three years of enrollment in the accreditation program.
13) If the candidate fails to complete the program in the term allotted, they can re-register for a second three-year term
by paying the accreditation registration fee in force at the time. All work previously completed by the candidate in the
first term can be used for completing the program in the second term.
14) If the candidate fails to complete the program in the second term, a three-year cooling off period must be completed
before they may apply to the accreditation program again.
15) After the cooling-off period any candidate wishing to continue in the accreditation program must make a special
application to the IAAE Canada Accreditation Committee. The decision to accept or reject the special application
shall be made by a majority decision of the entire committee. The committee’s decision shall be final. If accepted,
the candidate must complete all three phases with a new body of work. The candidate must write and pass the
current exam, submit a new body of work for the management paper to the Board of Examiners and complete the
interview. Any work completed in the previous terms does not carry over and may not be used.
16) Candidates who have completed the Certified Member program requirements may keep their C.M. designation
provided they remain IAAE Canada members in good standing.
Phase I - Written Exam
17) The written exam is a multiple-choice exam that is developed by the IAAE Canada Accreditation Committee and the

The academy is offered by IAAE Canada when demand exists. The fee for the academy is set by the IAAE Canada
Board of Directors.
19) A candidate may challenge the exam without completing the academy. The fee for challenging the exam is set by the
IAAE Canada Board of Directors. Candidates challenging the exam are required to have a proctor supervise the
examination, and the IAAE Canada Accreditation Committee must pre-approve the proctor.
Phase II - Management Paper

IAAE Canada body of knowledge. The completed papers are included in the IAAE Canada library, which is accessible
to all IAAE Canada, IAAE and AAAE members.
21) In general, papers are to be: relevant to airport management in Canada; “transportable” to other airports in Canada;
and 20 – 25 pages in length (exclusive of figures, indexes, appendices, etc.). Format and length specifics are listed
