International Association of Airport Executives Canada
Basic Airport Safety Operations School
(BASOS for part-timers)
Apr 16-18, 2013 Medicine Hat, AB
The Medicine Hat Alberta Airport will be hosting a unique BASOS course which has been adapted to meet the needs of Airfield Maintenance staff that spend only part of their time at an airport. Many regional airports, like Medicine Hat’s Airport, share staff with local municipalities and municipal districts. While these employees are highly skilled at what they do they are often unfamiliar with the airport work environment.
This course will focus on giving these non-dedicated airport employees a better understanding of how to perform work on an airport without interfering with the operational environment. This adapted BASOS course which we are calling “BASOS for part-timers” will focus on safe airport maintenance and operations at the airport. The course will get beyond the “get the job done” mind-set and help these staff better understand the complexities of working on an active airfield, aviation regulations and expand on abbreviations like SMS and SSIP.
If your airport has challenges with part-time maintenance staff please join us in Medicine Hat, Alberta to help these valuable assets start to speak and understand “Airport”. Air Canada Express has up to four flights per day into Medicine Hat from Calgary with connections across Canada so getting there should be easy enough.
The International Association of Airport Executives Canada (IAAE Canada) is pleased to present a three day training program in conjunction with the Medicine Hat Airport.
This course, as mentioned is a special and will depart from the usual corriculum which is designed for in depth airport operations, safety and risk management, security, planners, property, financial, legal and all other concerned administrative personnel, to enhance their professionalism and awareness of airside operations, technical procedures and responsibilities for the safety of the travelling public and who have either attended the Airport 101 course (the beginners course), which will facilitate understanding of the above course materials, or have been around an airport for a sufficient period.
The Basic Airport Safety & Operations School (B/ASOS) is specifically tailored to airport personnel responsible for the day-to-day operations of both commercial and general aviation airports throughout Canada and should become a regular and recurring part of every airport’s training program. The technical procedures and described presentations focus on medium to large airport application, but the safety and operations principles similarly apply to all airports, regardless of size. TP 312, airport certification and airside non-regulatory safety and operations issues are presented by experienced subject personnel, as well as ALPA, Transport Canada and Nav Canada officials when available, featuring Airport Safety, Certification Standards and Airfield Capacity topics.
The fee for this training course is $800 + tax for Non-Members and discounted to $700 + tax for Members.
