Canada and Saskatchewan Announce Funding for Upgrades to The Kindersley Regional Airport

The Governments of Canada and Saskatchewan are investing $660,000 to upgrade the Kindersley Regional Airport through the Building Canada initiative. Federal Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz and Kindersley MLA and Energy and Resources Minister Bill Boyd on behalf of Municipal Affairs Minister Jeremy Harrison made the announcement in Kindersley today.

“Families in the Kindersley area need a safe, viable airport for everything from flying in tourists to emergency air ambulance flights,” said Ritz, who also serves as Member of Parliament for Battlefords-Lloydminster. “This investment will create jobs right now and build a strong foundation of infrastructure in Kindersley for the long term.”

Upgrades to the airport include improving drainage, repaving the runway and repainting runway lines. The Governments of Canada and Saskatchewan will each invest $330,834 in this project. The Town of Kindersley will contribute the balance of the funding for an estimated total project cost of $992,504.

“The province continues to work in partnership with municipalities and the federal government to make infrastructure a priority in Saskatchewan,” Boyd said. “This important infrastructure project will continue to move Saskatchewan forward.”

This project is just one example of the commitment of both governments to strengthen the Saskatchewan economy and improve the quality of life for its residents. The Governments of Canada and Saskatchewan have taken steps to advance projects and flow money faster for targeted infrastructure projects in Saskatchewan communities in the 2010 construction season.
