Georgian co-op Student at IAAE Canada
We have all been a student at one time or another some of us more than once. Therefore we can appreciate the difficulty of paying for an education and then afterwards having been educated but having little or no experience.
As many of you know, aviation students studies are broken into segments in order to give them the opportunity to get both some work expereience and some money.
Since we now have a real office we have the room to employ additional help for our overworked Coordinator.
What better way to give back to the industry, while getting value added, than employing a coop student. Sara Christensen of Georgian college has been active in promoting her students for a coop period. We have been fortunate in that one such student Katrin Innes a second year student at Georgian was available. The economic slowdown has made it difficult for many of these students to find positions.
Katrin will be helping out in our office for the next couple of months, sharing a part of the daily load. Not exactly the kind of thing she might expect if working airside, but then every job has paper work, and showing up every day and performing assigned duties is always good practice.
Tom said, "it has been like a breath of fresh air", having someone to help dig him out from under the pile of paper that needs filing.
Even though the economy is slow, perhaps you too can do with a student to help out around the place. May we suggest you consider and call your local college or University that has coop students to hire.
